- Section 1 - Requirements for using Quarterdeck FTP
- ===================================================
-
- 1. A working WINSOCK.DLL.
- a) If operating on a TCPIP stack you will need a network card which
- is connected to a network.
- b) If you're using QWINSOCK.DLL and are not on a network you will
- need a modem and an Internet provider in order to connect to the
- Internet.
- 2. Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or higher.
-
-
- Section 2 - Additions to the manual
- ====================================
-
- 1) On page 193 of the manual the "Open Connection to FTP Server"
- dialogue box does not have a directory field. This field was added
- after the manual was printed to allow you to log into a specific
- directory.
-
-
- Section 3 - Misc. Issues
- ========================
-
- 1) QFTP does not delete multiple files.
- 2) Dropping to Windows95's Explorer does not work.
- 3) After a large GET, Windows' File Manager does not update the file
- size to the proper size.
- 4) QFTP does not support Macintosh and OS/2 FTP demons.
- 5) QFTP saves all opened connections. It is not necessary for you to
- save connections at all, though it is an option.
-
- Section 4 - General Questions
- =============================
-
- I'm getting a GPF in WLIBSOCK.DLL when I try to connect, why?
- The most common reason on a Novell network is that the line
- "device=vtcpip.386" is not in the [386enh] section of Windows'
- SYSTEM.INI file. If you are not on a Novell network you may not
- need this line.
-
- Why can't I connect to any of the FTP sites listed in the left pane?
- 1) It's possible that you're running on a network that is not
- forwarding the FTP requests outside your local network. Contact
- your network adminsitrator or just use QFTP to get and send
- files on your local network.
-
- 2) Your WINSOCK.DLL is not set up properly. HINT: Your DNS and
- router's IP addresses are very important - make sure they are
- correct.
-
- 3) You are using a WINSOCK.DLL that QFTP does not support.
- Contact Quarterdeck for further information.
-
- Why does QFTP wait a long time to connect sometimes?
- FTP servers may be down, have too many connections, the network
- traffic just may be heavy, the directory listing may be huge, or
- QWINSOCK may be reconnecting to your Internet provider. Try to
- connect again unless it appears that QWINSOCK is reconnecting to
- the provider. In this case - just be patient until you have
- reestablished a connection.
-
- FTP does not time-out. It's up to you to abort connections -
- using your better judgment as to what is happening with the
- connection.
-
- Why does File Manager open in an odd position when started from QFTP?
- The purpose is to allow both QFTP and File Manager space on the
- screen regardless of the pre-set positions. The only way to avoid
- this is to start File Manager manually.
-
- Why are all the initial site usernames names listed as "ftp"?
- Most FTP sites accept both "anonymous" and "ftp" as usernames,
- "ftp" is shorter and easy to spell, so we used it.
-
- What passwords am I using with the initial FTP sites?
- just generic ones we've made up. Typically, you'll use your
- Internet name (ie:name@machine.com).
